Carolyn was born in Galveston, TX, to Marcel Francis Jeanfreau and Caroline Marie Trepagnier Jeanfreau on August 1, 1939. She spent her teen years in Destrehan, LA, right outside of New
Orleans. When she was a Junior in high school, her father was transferred to the Amoco plant in Yorktown VA, moving them to Hampton VA. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1957. She met Ben Hancock, her lifetime love, on a blind date, and married him on August 9, 1958 when she was 19.
Carolyn worked as a seamstress at J C Penney’s in high school and continued after she was married. She began working at Hampton Christian Schools in 1978 so that all four of her children could attend. She then got bored staying home and went to work part time for John Cowley at Denbigh Pharmacy for a few years. After that she worked for a dentist and was a dental assistant/receptionist for 5 years.
Carolyn’s life drastically changed when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1970. She was instrumental in establishing Women’s Aglow Fellowship around VA, NC and Bermuda in the early 1980’s. She and Ben enjoyed going on multiple mission trips to Singapore, Sumatra, Costa Rica and Mexico.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to spend time with her family, especially playing cards, and enjoyed watching her family grow. She also loved to travel and was blessed to travel the world with her husband, Ben.
Carolyn is survived by her 4 children, Steven Hancock (Allison) of Moyock, NC, Cindy Sauer (David) of Yorktown, VA, Lisa Hollingsworth (Russell) of Yorktown, VA, and David Hancock (Susan) of Newport News, VA; 7 grandchildren, Joel Hollingsworth (Erin), Jessica Howard (James), Joshua Hollingsworth (Emmy), Logan Sauer (Henley), Ethan Hancock, Katelyn Geissinger (Kyle), and Morgan Hancock; 6 great-grandchildren, Blake Hancock, LJ Howard, Natalie Howard, Lily Hollingsworth, Josie Hollingsworth, and Korra Geissinger; a brother, Marcel Francis Jeanfreau, Jr. (Cheryl), a brother-in-law, Richard Hancock (Janet); and many other close family and friends.
