Carl Edward Hart

Carl Edward Hart
1941-2025
“Some glad morning, when this life is over, I’ll fly away. To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away!” It is with heavy hearts and grateful spirits, we announce the passing of Carl Edward Hart who was called to home on October 10, 2025 at the age of 84.
Born in the rolling hills of Rhodell, West Virginia, on June 8, 1941, Carl came into the world as part of a large and loving family. Raised in the close-knit Hart home, Carl learned early on the importance of helping others and living with integrity. Those early lessons carried him through a life marked by quiet strength, generosity, and a deep love for the people around him. Faith, hard work, and devotion to family were values that captured his heart at an early age and followed him through a lifetime.

After marrying his sweet heart, Shelma, and turning the page to a new chapter in Virginia, his passion for carpentry emerged, along with nurturing friendships and a promising business venture. Carl lived each day with purpose- rising early, working hard, and counting his blessings one by one. His desire to own a cabinet shop came to fruition at the age of 29 when the doors to Colonial Kitchens and Cabinets opened. This legacy still lives on 55 years later.
He found peace in the simple pleasures—casting a line into quiet waters, riding through the woods on his four-wheeler, and napping in the warmth of the sun with his loyal dog by his side. His servant heart touched many, always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word without hesitation.

Carl adored his grandchildren, and they adored their “Pop” right back. His eyes lit up with every giggle, every hug, and every moment spent together. He gave freely—of his time, his love, and his wisdom—and those gifts will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shelma Garretson Hart, son Randall Hart, and daughter Carla Bailey (Brian). His grandchildren include, Jordan Bailey (Kelsie), Olivia Dillon, Heather Emerson (Chase), Faith Hart and Morgan Hart. Carl’s great grandchildren are as follows, Levi Emerson, Colt Bailey, Landon Bailey, Halle Emerson, Beau Dillon, Reid Bailey, Gunner Dillon, and Nash Dillon. His living siblings include, sister Joy Hatcher, brother Jim Hart (Nora), Aubrey Hart (Janet), twin sister Carroll Elaine Jones and brother Randall Hart (Bobbie).

Carl rejoices in his new heavenly home alongside of parents, Luther McKinley and Mary Jane Hart, brother Robert Hart, son Carl Edward Hart Junior, brother Earl Hart, brother Roger Hart, sister Beulah Peery, sister Janis Whitenack, and sister Connie Michalek.

Until we meet again — we’ll hold tight to the promise that one day, we too shall “fly away, oh glory!”

Family and friends are warmly invited to a Celebration of Life honoring Carl on Friday, October 17, 2025. Family will accept visitors beginning at 11:00AM at Amory Funeral Home, located at 410 Grafton Drive, Yorktown, VA 23692. The service will begin at 12:00PM, followed by a graveside burial.
