Buena Mae Phaup


Buena Mae Phaup, 97, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025.Buena was born in Newport News and former resident of Newport News and lifelong peninsula resident. She retired from C&P Telephone after 37 years as an operator. She was a member of West Hampton Baptist Church and Christian Women’s Club. She read her Bible every day and loved to watch games shows.
She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Allen Phaup, her parents Mary and Franc Joyner, Sr., brothers Franc Joyner, Jr., Robert Joyner, a daughter Debbie Secosky and grandchildren, Joanna and Jamie. She is survived by her children, Robin Denise Broccuto and Benjamin Allen Phaup (Amy) sisters, Frances Mashburn, Rosemary Neubaum, Janet Nagele (Orville) and Nancy Joann Phillips and a brother Douglas R. Joyner (Sharon), grandchildren, Amy (Raj), Michael (Nikki), Jeremy (Brittany), Courtney (Randy), and great grandchildren, Zoe, Corbin, Vinnie, Nicholas, Marissa, Emma, Caitlin, Alex, Samantha, Isabella great great grandchildren, Addison and McKenna. Special thanks to Trinity Hospice and Brandi Harbert for the loving and compassionate care that was provided to Buena.
A service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 PM in Amory Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to West Hampton Baptist Church or the WWII Memorial.
