Brigitta Emma Marie Tetterton

Yorktown, Va. – Brigitta Emma Marie Tetterton, 86, passed away on Friday, November 25th with her family by her side. Brigitta was born April 17, 1936, in Berlin, Germany to Karl Heinz Neuland and Emma Marie Neuland. In 1961, she came to the United States, living in Texas, Arizona, and Hawaii before finally settling in Hampton Roads with her daughter in 1970.
Brigitta, a model in her early 20’s, was always known for her striking beauty. When asked how she remained so beautiful and youthful, she always credited it to her “great German genes.” She was known for her quick wit, straightforward opinions, and enormous heart. She was an amazing cook, especially when making her many delicious, authentic German recipes. As a loyal Atlanta Braves fan, she never missed watching a game. If the Braves weren’t playing, you could find her watching NASCAR, cheering on Jimmy Johnson, Animal Planet due to her love of animals or General Hospital with her daughter.
Brigitta is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gene; her daughter Sylvia Brown (Joe) of Hayes, VA; granddaughter Dawn Sweeney (Tom) of Yorktown, VA; great granddaughters Emerson and Everleigh and great grandson Braeden; brother Peter Neuland of Bonn, Germany; sister Barbara Lee of Poquoson, VA; nieces Patty, Pam, Mallorie and Nina; nephews Thomas and Nick; and her beloved rescue dog, Gracie.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate, in her memory, to the Richmond Animal Care and Control Foundation (RACC). You can donate online at www.raccfoundation.org/donate or by mail at RACC, 1600 Chamberlayne Avenue, Richmond, VA 23222.
The family extends its deepest, heartfelt appreciation to Harmony Hospice (formerly Grace Hospice) for the excellent care given to Brigitta in the past few months. A very special thanks to her caring and devoted nurse, Rachel, and her compassionate and attentive aide, Sheila.
