Barbara Nelson Chandler, born July 6, 1941, in Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on March 26, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia.Her life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion, grace, and enduring love.
On October 10, 1964, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Henry Joe Chandler Jr. Their marriage of over sixty years stood as a shining example of partnership rooted in faith and mutual respect.
Barbara was a proud mother to two sons: David Chandler and his family—Tammy, Abigail, and Zane —and Scott Chandler with his wife Courtney and their daughters Rebecca and Alyssa. Her love for her family was the heart of her world and guided her every step.
A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Barbara touched countless lives through her gentle spirit and selfless acts. Her kindness was genuine and far-reaching—leaving behind a legacy of compassion that will be remembered by all who knew her.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether working alongside Joe in their workshop refinishing antiques from their travels or tending to her garden—affectionately called “playing in the dirt”—Barbara embraced each moment with enthusiasm. She also cherished camping adventures and beach days with Joe, where kite flying and seaside meals created treasured memories.
Barbara’s warmth radiated from every interaction. Through small gestures and steadfast love, she uplifted those around her with sincerity and grace. Her life was a quiet testament to faith expressed through service—a legacy that continues to inspire.
A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at Lighthouse Worship Center, 4299 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Hayes, VA 23072 on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
