Barbara Jean Figg Copeland

GRAFTON- Barbara Jean Figg Copeland, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 10, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Effie Figg. She is survived by her loving husband William C. Copeland, her children William M. Copeland, John Copeland (Anne), Ann Copeland (Tony Arviola), grandson W. Mark Copeland (Dana), and great-grandson Kai Copeland, brother John Figg and many other extended family members. Barbara was born in West Point, VA. She was a life-long learner and teacher. Barbara excelled in school. She took her Medical Technology training at Norfolk General Hospital, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the Norfolk Division of William & Mary (parent to Old Dominion University). Barbara met William in college and after she graduated, Barbara and William were wed in Hampton, VA. They lived their first year of married life in Blacksburg, VA before moving back to Tidewater where they worked, played, prayed, and raised a family. Barbara worked for Riverside Hospital for most of her career, where she taught many classes. Barbara often said that she wanted to be the best Mother in the world. Her children gladly confirm that she was! The family would like to thank Riverside Hospice for their compassionate care for our beloved Barbara. Funeral services will be held at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 3:00 pm. Burial will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
