Anne Taylor

Anne Massie Taylor
10/13/1941 – 06/12/2026
Anne Taylor, a life-long resident of the Virginia Peninsula, passed away on Friday, June 12 at the age of 84. She is survived by her son, David, and his family, Laura, Hayden & Corbin Taylor. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim, in 2017 and her oldest son, Jimmy, in 2008. Anne was an only child, and her parents were Peyton & Betsy Massie.
Anne battled various issues that kept her homebound for the last six years of her life, but it was ovarian cancer that took her life in the end. Throughout her mobility issues, she never stopped sharing her love for Jesus and doing whatever she could to help others. Supporting many ministries & charities, making crafts to support local and global outreach efforts, and just praying without ceasing for her family, friends and many others filled her days.
Born in Newport News, Anne moved to York County early in life and eventually attended York High School and met the man she would marry, James (Jim) Taylor. After graduating from York HS in 1959, she & Jim were married later that year and built a home on Jim’s family farm in Tabb, VA, next to the farmhouse where Jim was born. Children followed (Jimmy & David) and she settled into the life of a farmer’s wife. Life on the farm was filled with its moments of excitement including when Anne had to assist a cow in delivering its calf by reaching into the womb and pulling the calf out. Anne & Jim were members of the Old Dominion Dragoons, a Civil War themed competition shooting team, and traveled the East Coast to various competition skirmishes during the early years of their marriage. Anne loved sports and was a strong competitor in softball & tennis.
When her oldest son, Jimmy, began school, Anne decided to enter the work force as a bus driver in 1969 and ended up driving a school bus for 40 years for York County in the Tabb area in which she lived. During her career as a school bus driver, she won many awards for her driving, drove athletic teams (including several state champions) to games & meets, and drove children who would eventually grow up and have their own children ride Anne’s bus. To help make ends meet on the farm, Anne also worked at the Piece Goods shop for many years which helped to fuel her enjoyment of crafts.
In addition to the work on the farm, at Piece Goods and driving a school bus, Anne was involved in many other activities and interests that reflected her love for Jesus and her care for her family and others. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she shared her gifts and talents and served faithfully for years until she was physically unable to attend. She worked at Bethel’s nursery school, participated in the adult vocal & bell choirs, drove the church bus for adult & youth events, and served in many other capacities for over 70 years at Bethel.
Family and friends will gather at Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday, June 27 to remember and celebrate Anne’s life. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM followed by the service, led by Brian Parker, Pastor of Discipleship & Missions, at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages any donations to be given to the Bethel Missions, Lottie Moon, or Mission Dignity Funds at Bethel Baptist Church.
