Ann Lumpkin Spivey


Ann Lumpkin Spivey departed this life on August 1, 2022 in her 102nd year. The sixth of nine children born to Ollie Slaughter Lumpkin and Hollis Nelson Lumpkin of Pittsylvania County, she outlived all of her siblings, her beloved husband, and many dear friends. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Spivey Coski, and son-in-law, John Coski, of Richmond, and many nieces and nephews.
On July 26, 1941, she married the love of her life, Charles Thomas “Tom” Spivey of Rich Square, North Carolina. They lived most of their happily married life – more than 68 years – in York County, where they were active members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for 50 years. She also worked 20 years as a kindergarten teacher’s aid in York County. She was a keen bridge player, a talented seamstress, and a baker of great renown.
A graveside service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, August 6 at the Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to the York County Church Women United Food Closet care of St. Luke’s UMC, 300 Ella Taylor Rd., Yorktown, VA 23692.
