Hilda Tomlinson Evans

Yorktown, Va. – Hilda Tomlinson Evans, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Born on March 29, 1942, in Lynchburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Osby and Dorothy Tomlinson.
Hilda had been a Peninsula resident since the 1960s and worked for many years as a talented seamstress. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose strength and dedication to her family carried them through life’s challenges. After the loss of her husband at the young age of 35, she devoted herself to raising her four children with love, determination, and unwavering care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Otto Evans, and her siblings, Junior, Billy, and Sandra.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Terry Lee Tomlinson; her children, Dale Evans (Brenda), Donald Evans (Darleen), Dorothy Evans Sanders (Earl), and Debra Evans Thompson; her grandchildren, William Thompson (Kameron) and Jennifer Thompson; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Amherst Cemetery in Amherst, Va. Arrangements are by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.
