Debra Rowell Alger, of York County, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 23, 1951, to George (G.W.) and Lois Rowell, Debra lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, and service to others. Debra is survived by her loving husband, Leonard I. Alger; her daughter, Kelli A. Francisco and husband Steve; her son, Bradley Rowell Alger and wife Brittany; her sister, Karen Rowell Woodward and husband Brian; and her brother-in-law, Wayne Schell. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Elijah Medford, Miriam Francisco, Steven Francisco, Jackson, Charlotte, and Georgia Alger. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, as well as great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, George (G.W.) and Lois Rowell, and her sister, Mary Katherine Rowell Schell. Debra dedicated many years as a graphic artist and photographer for the City of Hampton and later as a school bus driver for Poquoson City Schools and a high school cheer coach until retirement. Whether behind a camera, creating artwork, or coaching, she brought warmth and care to everything she did.
A lifelong member of Grafton Christian Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, youth group leader, and Vacation Bible School volunteer. Her faith was the foundation of her life, reflected daily in her kindness, generosity, and unconditional love guided her life.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 am with a funeral service to follow 11:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Grafton Christian Church, 109 Brick Church Road, Yorktown, Virginia 23692.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation. Debra’s legacy of faith and love and will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
