Anne Welch Tuck Newsome

Anne Welch Tuck Newsome, Born in Newport News on April 20, 1946, Anne passed away on January 29, 2026.
She was a native of Mathews and Yorktown, where she spent her childhood as well as a few years in Morocco and Key West. She returned to Yorktown and graduated from York High in 1964. Anne spent decades working in the medical field and was a regular fixture at the original Hampton General Hospital, Williamsburg Community Hospital and Williamsburg OBGyn before retiring as a practice manager in New Kent, Va.
She had an artist’s heart and loved to create, starting in tole painting, selling her artwork in Jackson Square in New Orleans, then evolving into painting glass. Her glassware and Christmas ornaments sold internationally. Her favorite pastimes were her family, friends, fishing, gardening, nature, collecting and honing her vast knowledge of antiques, and sewing and crocheting blankets and hats for newborns at local hospitals.
Anne loved people. She was accepting of everyone, was kind to all, and gave to all especially those less fortunate. She volunteered for the Red Cross and was active in charities that benefited those most vulnerable. Those most dear to her were children, Veterans and animals. She was sure to leave the world better than she found it, and she did.
She is preceded by her beloved son Erick Scott Sulik, her grandparents who were instrumental in her upbringing, William Bailey and Elizabeth Jane Diggs, Schley and Christine Hudgins all of Mathews and her mother Kathryn Hudgins Welch and beloved sister Sandi Bailey.
She leaves to cherish her memories her Daughter Kristine Sulik, brother in love Larry Bailey,
Nieces and Nephews Jodi Bailey, Chris and Jenn Bailey and Jordan and Alexis Bailey.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 2:30 PM in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers Anne would love for her memory to be honored in a more lasting way by mentoring a child, thanking a Veteran, adopting from a shelter, or considering a donation to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org
I love and miss you, Mom. We could have been given forever, and I’d still want one more day.
