James “Jim” Bee Shields

James “Jim” Bee Shields, 86, of Yorktown, VA, went home to the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2025.
Born in the Dandy area of Yorktown, Jim spent most of his childhood and adult life in Hampton, VA. He was a graduate of Hampton High School Class of 1958 and from there went on to attend the Norfolk division of William & Mary, later known as Old Dominion University. Jim worked for Teledyne Hastings-Raydist in Hampton for 35 years, where he served as Director of National and International Sales and Service, and as Company Ethics Officer. It was there that he met his wife of 57 years, Martha Robinson Shields, and they built a life together and lovingly raised 2 daughters. Through the years, Jim enjoyed traveling the world on business, visiting with family, weeks in the Outer Banks, many weekends at Mr. Doyle’s cottage in Whitestone, VA, and game nights with friends. Jim loved the Washington Redskins and for many years had season tickets to the games in RFK Stadium. He spent many game days there making great memories with lifelong friends Jim Pouchot, Ross Mitchell and Rusty Dail.
Preceding him in death was his oldest daughter, Beth Shields Erickson of Orlando, FL; parents, Harry & Ethel Shields of Hampton; brothers Harry Eugene “Blue” Shields of Dare and Rodman “P-Nut” Shields of Seaford; and sisters Juanita S. Gayheart of Poquoson; Loraine S. Wood of Grafton, VA; Joyce S. Hoard of Anderson, SC; Geraline S. Branch of Hampton; and Barbara S. Carter of Mechanicsville. We smile to know that they are all reunited again with restored souls.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Martha Shields of Yorktown, VA; his daughter, Jennifer Shields Anders and her husband Scot G. Anders of Virginia Beach; his son-in-law, Stephen M. Erickson of Orlando, FL; his grandson, Chase Erickson and wife Megan of Clermont, FL; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00pm on January 24, 2026, at Amory Funeral Home at 410 Grafton Drive in Yorktown, VA with a reception for visitation to follow. The inurnment will be done privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by visiting https://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR?px=9108161&fr_id=154020&pg=personal .
