Thomas D. “Mac” McNamara


Seaford, Va. – Thomas D. “Mac” McNamara, Lt Col, USAF (Ret), born February 27th, 1932 in Shelter Island, New York, passed away peacefully in his home in Seaford, Virginia on December 22nd, 2025. He was 93 years old.
Tom proudly served in the United States Air Force as a C-130 pilot for 24 years; he was stationed in many places, including overseas, and performed tactical air-lift operations in the Korean, Vietnam, and Cold Wars.
After his military service, Tom embarked on his retirement in Seaford, VA as an avid boater and fisherman, and along with his beloved wife, Tuya, and often his daughters Julie and Tomi, frequently boated to the Bahamas. Once in their 60s, Tom and Tuya traded in the boat for an RV to spend their summers in Shelter Island, NY and winters in Key West, FL.
Tom also was very active in his community with Civil Service. He was a long time treasurer and operations manager for the York County Senior Center, and an active member of the Commemorative Air Force.
Thomas is preceded in life by his parents Thomas and Julia McNamara; his sisters Helen Dart and Margaret Taylor; and his beloved wife of 58 years “Tuya” Evelyn McNamara. Thomas is survived by his daughters Julie Frankie and Tomi McNamara; his grandson Douglas McNamara Frankie (wife, Kelsey Remme); his great-grandson Arlo; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Amory Funeral Home, 410 Grafton Drive, Grafton, VA 23692 at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 4, 2026. A celebration of life and reception will follow at a later-disclosed location. Tom will join Tuya in internment at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.
