Richard Dion Boyd

Seaford, Va. – Richard Dion Boyd, 87, passed away on Friday November 28, 2025. Richard was a native and lifelong resident of Seaford, Virginia. Richard graduated from York High School in 1957. He went on to graduate from the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School in 1963, where he was class president his senior year. As a Naval Marine Designer, Richard enjoyed a more than 45 year career at the Newport News Shipyard and with John J. McMullen & Associates.
Richard enjoyed music, playing sports, antique cars and he was an avid history and military buff. He was active at Zion United Methodist Church. Richard’s favorite times were those spent with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Mary Virginia Forrest Boyd, Cherished Daughters Monica Boyd Francisco of Ellicott City, Maryland (Husband Paul), and Karen Boyd Vest of Williamsburg, Virginia, Adored Grandchildren Julia Matthews (Husband Austin) and Kyle Francisco, Great Grandson Dax Matthews, Brother David Wayne Boyd of Hampton, Virginia, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Hertford “Skeets” Boyd and Elizabeth Mitchell Boyd.
A memorial service will be held at Zion United Methodist Church on Saturday December 6, 2025 at 11 AM. Reception to follow in the church social hall.
