Carolyn Tatem Inskeep


Carolyn Tatem Inskeep, a longtime resident of Culpeper, VA, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025. She was 74 years old.
The first-born daughter of a Marine, Carolyn was born on April 22, 1951 in Portsmouth, VA, to Lloyd “Gene” and wife Adell Tatem. Carolyn’s early childhood spanned both the east and west coasts, as her father’s military career led them to many places across the country, eventually settling in Annandale, VA during her teen years. Carolyn graduated from Annandale High School in 1969 and later attended The College of William and Mary, graduating in 1973.

Upon graduation, Carolyn moved to Culpeper, VA to begin her career in education. Carolyn spent close to three decades in public education, first as a physics teacher, and later returning to the classroom as a middle school math teacher. She retired in 2016, and was shortly thereafter promoted to the new position of “Ga-Ga,” as her first grandson was born.

Carolyn is survived by her children – Jonathan Russell Inskeep and his wife Laramie of Culpeper, VA, Tatem Inskeep Davis and her husband Allen of Yorktown, VA, and their father John (Jack) Inskeep of Rapidan, VA; her sister – Barbara Tatem Kelley and her husband Richard of Fairfax, VA; her grandchildren – Azalea Renee Inskeep, Aubrey Jean Inskeep, and Johnathan Joseph Inskeep of Culpeper, VA, and Elijah Nathan Davis and Aubrie Elizabeth Davis of Yorktown, VA; as well as beloved nephews and a niece.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Eugene Tatem and Adell Budnick Tatem of Annandale, VA.

Carolyn’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Warwick Forest Assisted Living Community in Newport News, VA, as well as the Riverside In-Home Private Duty team, for the kind and dignified care they provided to Carolyn in her final months of life.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 1 pm at Fairview Cemetery (822 Sperryville Pike) in Culpeper, VA. A reception will be held immediately afterward, open to all family and friends, at Luigi’s Italian Restaurant (235 Southgate Shopping Center, Culpeper, VA).
