Frank Mataro, Jr.

Frank Mataro, Jr. January 5, 1941 – October 6, 2025 Frank Mataro, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Virginia.
A longtime resident of Yorktown, he shared his home with his devoted sister, Shirley Torregrossa, and his beloved dog, Reno. Frank proudly served his country for over three decades — 20 years as an Infantryman and 12 years as Military Police in the United States Army. His dedication and courage took him through two tours in the Vietnam conflict and the Korean War, during which he received numerous honors, including the Bronze Star Medal for an act of valor — the fourth-highest individual military award for heroism in a combat zone. Outside of his military service, Frank was known for his love of fishing, golf, woodworking, and card nights spent with his closest friends. His sense of humor, loyalty, and quiet strength left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Frank Mataro, Sr., his mother Fannie Feldstein Mataro, his two brothers Carmen and Jim, and his sister Marie. He is survived by his three children — Shirley Reeves, Raymond Mataro, and Heather Boyd — his cherished grandchildren Christina, Cameron, and Grace, his great-grandson Case — and his sister Shirley Torregrossa.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, Virginia. The funeral service will follow on Thursday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Yorktown. Frank’s life was defined by service, love, and integrity.
