Arthur James Miller

Arthur James Miller (fondly referred to as “Art”) was called to heaven on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was 69. Art was born in Columbia, South Carolina on October 24, 1954, to the late James and Althea Miller and was the oldest of nine children.
Art’s work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him enlisting in the United States Air Force; after high school. While stationed in Berlin, Germany, he met his wife and life partner, Petra. Art proudly served 25 years in the Air Force and served another 20 years as a civilian; retiring both occasions at Langley Air Force Base. Art received many military awards and honors (e.g., Bronze Star from Desert Storm and Desert Shield), but his biggest glory was his commitment and unwavering love for his family.
Art always believed in higher education but was not able to afford anything above a high school diploma. Once in the military, Art took full advantage of all the educational opportunities the military extended to him. Art received a Master Degree in Information Systems in 2006. Arthur Miller expressed to his daughter, granddaughter, family, and friends the importance of it never being to late to get an education; explore new avenues; or reaching to better than you were the day before.
Art was preceded in death by his wife, Petra M. Miller; brother, Ashford L. Miller; sister, Gwendolyn E. Miller. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle M. Rascoe (Derek W. Rascoe Sr.); his granddaughter, Alyssa M. Rascoe; and his siblings: Janice E. Miller, Kenneth J. Miller, Ronnie M. Miller, Pierre L. Miller, Shonda E. Miller and Stephon B. Miller.
