R. Wayne Stokes, Sr.


Yorktown, VA–Robert “Wayne” Stokes, Sr., 77, passed peacefully at his Tabb home on Aug. 1st, just 10 days after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
He was preceded by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda Lamb Stokes; his parents, Eva B. Stokes Hunt, Robert C. Stokes, and Delmar C. Hunt, Sr.; and his brother, Delmar C. Hunt, Jr. He is survived by his children Melanie Stokes Pesola (Eric), Michelle L. Stokes, and Robert W. Stokes, Jr. (Kelly), and four grandchildren–Alec & Neeley Pesola and April & Trey Stokes. Wayne was born in New Bern, NC on Oct. 8, 1946. Having relocated to Newport News in infancy, he was a lifelong peninsula resident. Wayne was a member of the 1965 class of Newport News High School, where he was a proud Typhoon basketball player. He attended Christopher Newport College. Wayne worked for C&O Railroad and later spent many years in sales. Giving decades of volunteerism, Wayne served his community with youth sports leadership. A memorial service will be held Sat., Aug. 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Amory Funeral Home, 410 Grafton Dr., Yorktown 23692. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, VA.
