Pauline Purdum Turner

Pauline Purdum Turner, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to Paul and Fannie Purdum in Savannah GA, where she and her older sister Mardy were enchanted with a distinct southern charm.
In the late 1930s Polly and her family moved to Richmond, VA where she completed Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated from Richmond Professional Institute with a degree in art. Polly’s first job was as a fashion illustrator for Miller & Rhodes department store in Richmond before meeting her loving husband William Hamden Turner. She has been a resident of York County since 1976.
Polly will forever be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and the joy she found in raising her children. In addition to being a caring homemaker, she also worked as a teacher assistant, an employee at the Hampton Doll Shop, and as an art specialist for Nancy Thomas Gallery until she retired. Polly was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church and the Yorktown Chapter of the DAR. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She also found great pleasure in painting portraits of people, gardening, and cooking delicious meals for family and friends. Polly was able to live independently and happily for her remaining years due to the additional loving support provided by her nephew Paul Quensen. Her kind spirit and warm smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband, William Turner, and will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Mark Turner and his wife, Cathy, Scot Turner, and Dean Turner, three grandchildren, Eric and Ryan Turner, Lindsay Turner Seddon and her husband, Thomas, and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Charlotte Seddon.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, July 30th at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Organization, https://www.samaritanspurse.org.
