Edith Haner Cowan

Edith Haner Cowan, 93, passed peacefully on June 6, 2024. Edith was born on March 14, 1931, in Webster County, Kentucky, to the late Simon and Beulah (Mabry) Haner.
After graduating from Morganfield High School, she married Burnett L. Cowan on October 4, 1951. As a military spouse, she spent time in England, Maine, South Dakota, Texas, and Virginia. A lifelong Baptist, Edith was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown, VA, and attended the Joy Club and Rigby Bible Fellowship Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; and sisters, Evelyn Railey, Jackie Cobb, Mary Heck, and Jonell West.
Edith is survived by her son, John B. Cowan (Debbie); sisters, Patsy Shoulders and Rayma (Jim) Sheridan; grandchildren, Joey Harris (Leslie) and Jonny Cowan; and great grandchildren, Brooks Harris, BayLee Harris, Mabry Cowan, and Jace Cowan.
A memorial service will be on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, 1004 Yorktown Rd., Yorktown, VA 23693. Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Baptist. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.
