Ronald Walker Hall

Ronald Walker Hall, 73, of Yorktown, VA, passed away Friday, April 26, at Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News.
Mr. Hall was born in Roanoke, a proud graduate of Virginia Tech with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, had a lifetime career as an educator and assistant principal in 7 different locales finally retiring from Spotsylvania County Schools. He was a member of Spotswood Baptist Church and lifelong Freemason. He is survived by his wife, Carole Tuck Hall, his daughter, Laura Denise Hall, and his son, Charles Edward Hall, and his sister, Beverly Hall Thomas. His Pride and Joy were his two granddaughters, Grace Elizabeth Richards and Charlotte May Richards, who carry his light into the world. Mr. Hall died peacefully Friday evening surrounded by immediate family as he wished. Mr. Hall instilled a strong work ethic in his children working for 33 years as an assistant principal, also working a number of years after retiring from Spotsylvania County Schools multiple jobs to help his kids make it through college and graduate school. He loved math and numbers to the end so in his honor we will share some of that balance sheet of his successful life: 7 Virginia counties where he lived and served as teacher, assistant principal or principal over the years in 14 public schools; 2 children; 2 grandchildren so far; 27 Cars come and gone over a lifetime; and 7 years as Chancellor High School unofficial historian with the Lightning Regiment Marching Band – always recording every game, competition and parades all over the east coast by camcorder – sadly those movies did not make the move from Fredericksburg to Yorktown.
Ron was active in his community as Freemason, Lion’s Club member and always an active church member – a happy, content backrow Baptist, even in his 15 years at a Methodist church. His other happiest role in his later years has been grandfather to 2 sweet baby girls that he loved reading to and teaching every breath he had to give. All the teachers, coworkers and children that spoke to his family over the years always said Mr. Hall was a special quiet force in all his schools that made everything just a bit better and supported everyone more than could be seen from his book cart, standardized test days or disciplinarian roles where he came to their rescue.
There will be a brief remembrance service Saturday May 4, at 2 PM in Yorktown, Virginia at Saint Mark Lutheran Church with reception afterwards lasting to 4:30 PM. After 40 years in Fredericksburg, it felt like home for Ron and his family but it will be understood if many are unable to attend hours away in Yorktown.
