Dorothy Holloway Burcher

Dorothy Holloway Burcher passed into God’s glory on February 12, 2024, just a week shy of her 89th birthday.
She was born in Poquoson VA on February 19, 1935 to Hester Jane and Maynard Holloway, one of six children. She attended Poquoson High School, and married Ray Mathews Burcher. Together they raised three children.
She worked a brief stint as a “stuffer” for the Daily Press, inserting circulars into individual papers, but her true life’s work was as a mother, wife, and homemaker. She enjoyed keeping a freshly decorated, pristine home, crafting home-cooked meals, and her TV favorites of soap operas and professional wrestling. She sang in the choir at Grafton Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Birdie May Holloway Wellborn and Inez Holloway Cross as well as brothers Manuel Maynard Holloway Jr, Ernest Holloway and William “Bill” Holloway; her daughter Wendy Burcher Van Natter; and her husband of 55 years Ray Mathews Burcher.
She is survived by her sons Ray Mathews Burcher Jr of Grafton (wife Sandy Burcher) and Anthony Wayne Burcher of Williamsburg (wife “Mike” Burcher); grandchildren Mandy Burcher, Matthew Burcher, Sarah Burcher Dankof, Dennis Wayne Van Natter, and Joshua Burcher; step-granddaughter Kara Eanes; 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 1 PM at Grafton Christian Church, with a reception following.
