Stephen Martin Swicegood


Seaford, Va. – Stephen Martin Swicegood, 63, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
Steve was born in Newport News and a lifelong York County resident. He graduated from Tabb High School in 1978. He was a former volunteer with York County Fire Department from 1979 to 1981, was the fifth Paramedic with Newport News Fire Department and retired in 1999 as Master Medic/Fire Fighter with almost 20 years of service. While with the fire department he received the Medal of Valor. Steve enjoyed passing on his knowledge and telling a great story of unique calls and fire department antics.
Steve was Past Master of Yorktown Masonic Lodge 205 and Associate Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughter Bethel 39. He loved his role as Dad Steve.
Steve lived his Christian faith, helping those in need and offing comfort or inspiration through God’s Word.
All who knew Steve could expect a joke or great story. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, hosting family gatherings and JMU football games.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tracy Collier and a son Travis Martin Swicegood. He is survived by his loving, devoted and understanding wife Laurie Rider Swicegood, son Timothy Michael Swicegood, daughter Kayla Klug and her husband Matt, daughter-in-law Rachel Swicegood, brother John Keith Swicegood and grandchildren, Brittany Collier, Brandon Collier, Emma and John Swicegood and great grandchildren, Jaina, Leon and Michael and Zoey.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 pm in Amory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in Providence United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
A celebration of the life for Stephen Martin Swicegood will be held at St George Brewing Company on Thursday June 1, 2023 starting at 3:00 PM Food is welcomed, drinks provided. Nosh mobile Bistro will also be on site as well come out, have a good time and let’s celebrate the life of a great man!
