Donald Scott Kinkade


Donald Scott Kinkade, passed Sunday, February 19, 2023, eight days before his 87th birthday. He was born February 27th, 1936 in Oceanside, New York to Walter Scott Kinkade and Marguerite Nuebling Kinkade. He grew up in West Hempstead, and Hempstead , NY. After high school graduation, he joined the Army 82nd Airborne, serving in France and Germany from December 1955 to December 1958, where he learned the trade of welding and metal fabrication. After his honorable discharge, he worked in the aerospace industry.
In 1961, he met his wife, Suzanne, and after much provocation on her part, married her on December 5th, 1964. They lived in East Rockaway, NY. In late 1969, his only son, Scott Christopher, was born.
In 1973, the family moved to Newport News, Virginia, where Don was employed by Leibherr America, followed by Anheuser-Busch for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
He was a Mason for 56 years, joining the brotherhood in New York State, then as a member of Warwick Masonic Lodge #336 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. He was also a member of Khedive Shriners, proudly wearing his “upside down flower pot”.
Don enjoyed sailing his 22’ Catalina sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay during many weekends of fine sailing weather in the Hampton Roads region.
He was an avid model train enthusiast. Enjoying train shows in Hampton Roads and Pennsylvania.
Above all else, as everyone who knew him, Don was a car guy.
He was a proud owner of a Porsche Cayman S, a member of First Settlers Region Porsche Club of America, enjoying the camaraderie and friendship of everyone in the club.
He took immense pride being an original owner of a coral reef turquoise 1965 Pontiac GTO, keeping the car in “Showroom Quality” since the day he bought the car. He also took ownership pride of an almost all original 1978 Chevrolet Scottsdale pick up truck which was known as his “tow vehicle”. To know Don was to know his cars.
As Don’s mother said, “All Don ever wanted to do is play.”
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Suzanne Kienke Kinkade, his son Scott Christopher, and his wife Rosemary, granddaughter Simone Ante, and grandson Brendan Christoph, as well as his brother and sister in law William and Debra Kienke, nephews Bryan and Michael, and their wives, as well as five great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at Denbigh United Presbyterian Church, 302 Denbigh Blvd. Newport News, Virginia 23608.
Burial will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.
