William Gibson “Bill” Wallace

William “Bill” Wallace, age 90, of Yorktown, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017. He was born in St. Louis, MO. His work brought him and his family to Yorktown in 1979.
Bill made good use of his electrical engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis by representing McDonnell Douglas/Boeing as an engineer at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. Before coming to Virginia, Bill worked on many exciting projects, including spending five years at Cape Canaveral, FL working on the space programs that led to the first American to orbit the moon.
Bill and his wife of 65 years, Joy Wallace, were members of Crooks Methodist Church where he served on the building committee for the church expansion. He enjoyed playing bridge and poker and traveling the country in their RV.
He is survived by his wife, Joy, daughters Janet Balentine (Bob) and Laura Smith all of Yorktown, a son, Wm. Scott Wallace of Longmont, CO and three beloved grandsons, Brian Balentine, Eric Balentine, and Blake Smith.
Services will be held at 10am Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside College of Health Careers (attn: Michael Hamilton) or Crooks Memorial UMC.
