Martha Powell Lovett


Martha Powell Lovett, 63, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018. Born in Hampton, Virginia, she grew up in York County, attended York Elementary, Walsingham Academy and graduated from York High School in 1973. She joined the Army, where she served overseas in the medical laboratory field. She graduated from Austin Peay State University receiving her bachelor’s in Medical Science. Board certified as a Medical Technology/ Medical Laboratory Scientist, she specialized in microbiology and Immunology. She will be remembered for her athleticism with the Marlbank swim team, being a fierce competitor at the regional and state levels. She is known for her compassion for the less advantaged, fortitude against illness, devotion to animals, interest in politics, love for her children and adored her special role as “Darmer” to her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Lawrence Geoffrey Lovett and his wife Amanda; Shannon Eileen Lovett and her fiancĂ© Darron E Wicks; her grandchildren, Hannah, Emanuel, Chase, Rhomie and Kayden; her father Robert D. Powell, Jr.; and her sisters, N. Peyton Powell and M. Lindsay Powell; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on July 27th at 2:00pm with reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Humane Society or to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America
