Marie Santomasso Hamilton

Marie Santomasso Hamilton, 79, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Marie was born on April 29, 1939, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Michael and Dorothy Santomasso. The eldest of three girls, she was especially close to her sisters, Merlene and Miki. In 1957, she married George Hamilton and began her 22 year career as a military wife. After their retirement, Marie started her second career as the attendance secretary at Tabb Middle School, where she stayed for 27 years. After her retirement, she volunteered for the Yorktown Musuem, washing artifacts.
Besides her husband, the most important people in her life were her children – Tina-Marie, John, and Michael and her granddaughter, Chelsea. Her family was present for every step of her difficult journey with Alzheimer’s, and they are struggling with the loss of such a wonderful mother. She was blessed to enjoy her great-grandchildren: Aiden, Addison, and Easton. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, George Hamilton; her infant daughter, Natalie; her parents Michael Santomasso and Dorothy Santomasso; her sisters, Merlene Bishop and Marion Mero, and her brother-in-law, Robert Bouffard.
Marie loved her many nieces and nephews, but she was especially close to her niece, Jennifer Brackett and her husband, Tim, and her nephew Kevin. Marie’s dear friend, Nancy Dayton, was with her to the end, taking her out for ice cream or visiting her, even in the most difficult moments.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Amory Funeral Home. Afterwards, a small, private funeral liturgy (Yes, Elvis hymns will be played at Marie’s request) will be held, and burial will follow at Bellamy Memorial Cemetery, Gloucester. Please contact the family if you wish to attend.
Instead of flowers, please make a donation to the Cure of Alzheimer’s Fund or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America to find a cure for this deadly disease.
