Lovey Mahoney died on Sunday, March 11, 2018, after a brief illness in Newport News, Virginia, at Warwick Forest Retirement Community. She was born November 25, 1920, in Staunton, Virginia, a daughter of the late Lewis J. and Mary Isabel (Cochran) Cook and moved to Lexington, Virginia, when she married Cecil Guy Mahoney in 1939. She worked with her husband who owned The Flower Center then located downtown at the corner of Main and McDowell streets. After his retirement, Lovey was a docent at the Robert E. Lee Chapel for 22 years. She was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church.
Lovey is predeceased by her parents and a sister, Doris C. Null, nephew-in-Iaw, Wayne Collier and husband of 58 years C. G. Mahoney. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Mahoney Alexander and son-in-law, Robert M. Alexander of Seaford, Va; two sisters, Betty C. Whitmore and Billie Jean Banks of Staunton, VA. She is also survived by a grandson, Robert M. Alexander, ” and wife Ellen of Toano, VA; a granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Alexander Barrett and husband Liam; a great grandson Jackson Alexander Barrett of Carlsbad, Ca; two nieces Patricia Collier of Free Union, Va and Beth Lobb of Staunton, Va and their children Lucy Collier, Grady Collier, Kaitlyn Lobb, and Will Lobb.
A graveside service will be conducted at Noon on Friday, March 16, 2017. In Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington, Va., by Dr. William Klein. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
