Jean Smith Krowe

Jean Smith Krowe, passed away at Riverside Hospital on Friday, October 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving daughters. Ma, as she was affectionately known to many was a native and lifelong Yorktown resident and a lifetime member of Providence United Methodist Church. She graduated from Poquoson High School in 1952 and retired from Bendix after 20 years of service. She was a long time volunteer with Mary Immaculate Hospital and York County Food Bank. She was a member of Gods Needles of Love, Isabelle Hall Sunday School Class, the Mariam Gruber Circle and Woodmen of the World.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Raymond “Buck” Krowe and brothers Wallace “Duck” Smith and Jack Smith and survived by her daughters, Suzanne K Freeman (Donnie) of Yorktown and Jean Rae Hulstine (Wayne) of Yorktown. Grandchildren, Ryan Freeman, Joshua Freeman (Ally), Amanda Freeman, Zachary Hulstine and Wyatt Hulstine (Brittany).Great-grandchildren, Finley Hulstine and Payton Freeman.
Ma was a gentle soul and never said anything bad about anyone. She enjoyed crocheting, family vacations on the Outer Banks and a good competitive game of croquet. In later years after spouses had passed she enjoyed spending time with the “Golden Girls” and friends eating at the Golden Coral and playing games on Fridays.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:30 to 7:00 pm at Amory Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Providence United Methodist Church led by Pastor Doug Akers. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Woodmen Rites with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made in her name to Providence United Methodist Church Operating Expenses or Cemetery Fund 113 Old Dare Road, Yorktown, Va.
Ma was an amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother and treasured every moment she spent with her family. She will forever be loved and missed by all.
