Gerald Ray Craig

Gerald Ray Craig, 83, of Yorktown, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was the son of the late Leonard and Florence Craig of Wakeman, Ohio. Gerald attended Ohio State University, before serving in the U. S. Army 1st Calvary Division where he was a Photographer in the Korean War. He then enjoyed his career as an Engineer for Newport News Shipbuilding and was a member of Crooks United Methodist Church. Gerald was an avid woodworker, hunter, and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his two daughters, Carol Hughes and Nancy Root.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his steadfast and devoted wife of 53 years, Rosetta Grace Craig; He was survived by two brothers, Earl Craig and his wife, Rosemarie of Huron, Ohio, and Kevin Craig, of Clarksfield, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Shawn Hughes; Nancy and David Root of Yorktown along with three grandchildren: Katelyn, Christopher, and Matthew; nieces, nephews, cousins, and family. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to St. Francis Nursing Center for their loving care and support given to Gerald.
A time of gathering will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1 pm at Crooks United Methodist Church in Yorktown. Gerald continues his legacy through medical research of the Virginia State Anatomical Program. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes considerations of a donation in memory of Gerald R. Craig to Crooks Memorial Church, 204 Cook Road, Yorktown, VA 23690.
