Effie Carolyn York Grantham

Effie Carolyn York Grantham, 83, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Carolyn was a native of Georgia, first as a student at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School and then graduated South Habersham High School. Carolyn continued her education at Berry College in Rome, Georgia where she received her degree in English and Education and met and married the love of her life.
Carolyn and William moved to Yorktown in 1961 where they enjoyed raising their four children. Her love of music, God and fellowship led them to the arms of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church where she joined the choir. Carolyn was active as a teacher for Hampton and York County Public Schools, York High Band Boosters and Seaford Homemakers Club for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Julius Ray and Azalee Sanders York of Cornelia, Ga., siblings Deral York, Barbara Parisi, and Thelma Morris and son in law Robert Tribble. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Lawrence Grantham and their children, Steven Grantham (Tina), David Grantham, Dan Grantham (Deborah), and Lori Tribble and 5 grandchildren, Michael, Haley, Peyton, Preston, and Elizabeth a multitude of nieces and nephews, her beloved Linda and Sumitra Azar, Robert Jackson, and many lifelong friends. She is also survived by her sisters Glenda Cook (Lamar) and Cheryl Smith (Larry) and brothers, John York and Garrett York.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 29th in Yorkminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Yorkminster Presbyterian Church Choir.6218 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Yorktown, Virginia 23692.
