Daniel “Danny” James Hoage
Daniel ‘Danny’ James Hoage, 36, was tragically taken from his family in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, August 3, 2018. He was fondly known as ‘D’ or ‘Big D’ by his nieces and friends. He is a beloved son to Bradley and Patricia Hoage; a cherished father to his sons, Seth and Gavin Hoage; best friend and brother to Tad Hoage and wife Amber. He will be dearly missed by his grandparents Frank and Dawne Hoage, his grandmother Ursula Raines and the mother of his children Audrey Burnett. Also mourning his loss are his uncles Jimmy, Clarence ‘Boogie’, Ricky, Tom, and Jeff; his aunt Linette; cousins Jessie and Jen, and nieces Bethany, Summer, and Sierra that he loved as his own, not to mention his many lifelong friends that became extended family. He is preceded in death and has joined his grandfather Jim Raines and Uncle Jeffrey Hoage.
Danny was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia where he formed many strong friendships over his lifetime with his outgoing personality, caring spirit and big heart; always ready to lend a hand to help family and friends. No one could resist his big laugh or his sarcastic sense of humor! He had a larger than life personality! With his sense of humor and the fact that he ‘never met a stranger,’ he easily added new friends to the long list of those who loved him.
First and foremost was his love for his sons, he was a devoted father from the day they were born. He shared with his sons his love of the outdoors, water, and animals. Many vacations were spent with their mother Audrey camping, boating, fishing, and enjoying the beach.
He was mentored by his father Brad who affectionately called him his shadow. They had a very strong father-son bond resulting in Danny becoming a very skilled and talented carpenter and mechanic, ‘a jack of all trades.’ He also learned these skills from time spent with his grandfather Frank and their close relationship. He also loved the time he spent with his grandmother Dawne whom he affectionately called ‘Granga.’ When he was young.
Danny also had a very strong bond with his mother, Pat, who was always there for him. He will also be extremely missed by Audrey, the mother of his children whom he had a lifelong relationship with since their youth and shared their immense love in raising their two sons together. He was also close with Audrey’s mother ‘Gail’ who considered him another son.
You can hardly mention Danny’s name without thinking of his brother Tad. They were always together they were more than just brother they were truly best friends. Working on cars and jobs together always helping each other out. They loved each other’s children as if they were their own. They loved and supported each other with that true “brotherly” love that was so so special. Tad’s heart break over his brothers passing is enormous.
Over the years, Danny has touched a lot of lives through his work and friendships; he will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, a fund for Danny’s children Seth and Gavin’s future. has been set up. Cared for by his aunt. Donations can be made to “Linette Lancaster” or “Tad Hoage” c/o 5576 Riverview Road, Williamsburg, Va. 23188. In the memo please write the Danny Hoage Fund.
