Barbara Little Tyler

Barbara Little Tyler, 91, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Barbara was born and raised in Pineville, Louisiana. She moved to Staunton, VA after marrying Wilbert Paul Tyler, so he could pursue a teaching job at Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in the Blind Department. Together, they raised four children. They later moved to the Peninsula area, after Wilbert accepted a job as Assistant Principal at VSDB, Hampton, VA. Barbara also worked as a substitute teacher at VSDB in Staunton and Hampton, and as a Nurse’s Assistant at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Staunton, VA. Barbara and Wilbert instilled integrity, strength and motivation in their children and grandchildren which encouraged them to become the successful adults they are today.
Barbara was proceeded in death her husband Wilbert Paul Tyler; a sister Marie Simms of Pineville, LA and parents Ella and Truly White also of Pineville, LA.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary Paul Tyler and his wife Kathy of Seattle, WA, Philip Lane Tyler of Yorktown, VA, Lyndon Dale Tyler of San Diego, CA; a daughter Terry Tyler Collins and her husband John of Yorktown; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 4, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 5, 2018, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, with Rev. Clara Gestwick officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. A reception following the services will be held at the home of Terry and John Collins.
